Blogging has become so popular that somewhere in the world a new blog is started every half second. Why are so many of us taking the time to blog? From mothers to CEO’s, Fortune 500 companies, college students, artists and doctors blogging has become an essential part of marketing and the distribution of information. Although most of us do it, many do not fully understand the exponential effects blogging can have.
Blogs have become the most trusted source in social media, yet only 9% of US marketing companies employ a full-time blogger. This means that freelance writers everywhere are being sought out to write relevant and interesting blog topics. Why is this important? Content is in demand today and that means it should be valued. It also means that writers everywhere have a chance to market their services (and shouldn’t sell themselves short!)
The use of blogs have also been proven to generate traffic to websites and influence purchasing decisions. ZAGG, an online retailer, knows its blog results in sales, as it earns 172% ROI and 10% of the site traffic.
When beginning an online venture, creating a website is only the beginning. You want your customers or target audience to be able to find your website through search engines. Try this exercise: Type keywords your customers would search when seeking your services into Google and see if you can find your website or any of your online properties. It may be a rude awakening, but if you’re banking on your customers simply knowing your URL you are making a huge mistake. To assist with SEO, blog titles, URL structure and tags will tell search engines to pull your website’s blog up for relevant searches. If you are a beauty salon in Queens your customers may type into Google “Hair salon Queens NY”, therefore writing a blog post titled “The Best Hair Salons in Queens NY” and tagging it with “Hair Salons Queens NY” will give you the visibility you want. Partly due to this blogging tactic, 2/3 of marketers say their company blog is critical or important to their business
Are you looking for new leads yet can’t afford to buy them from a marketing company? 4x more leads occur for business that blog 20x per month than those who don’t. This is achieved a number of ways: such as obtaining subscriber email addresses and gaining engagement and visibility through comments and sharing.
Finally, are you looking to be a thought leader in your industry? Fifty-six percent say blogging got them there! Being a trusted source of information in your industry provides you with exponential opportunities-such as visibility, promotion opportunities and self-sufficiency.
